Improving our environment with BioChar

Throughout the rainforests of Brazil there are patches of unusually fertile soil. Thousands of years ago, Amazonian farmers amended these humble plots of land with charcoal – a surprisingly effective soil management strategy. Today, rich and black against the clay earth that surrounds them, these isolated acres of “Terra Preta” somehow retain their intense fertility. For this reason, agriculturalists are taking an interest in this ancient agricultural approach, hoping to make today's food production more sustainable and find ways to mitigate global climate change.
